Real Techniques Buffing Brush & Dupe Comparison

Hello Beauties, I hope you have all been well. I've not been posting much as I am on vacation in Barcelona and am trying to spend every minute enjoying everything Barcelona has to offer. Right now, I've got a bit of time resting at home so I thought I'd write this post.

I love applying my makeup with brushes. As foundation is the base of your makeup, it is important that your foundation is applied smoothly because when the base is bad, somehow the rest of the makeup looks bad too.

Prior to getting the Real Techniques Sam's Picks Brush Set, I got a dupe of the Real Techniques Buffing Brush on ebay. Here are pictures of both brushes. Can you tell the difference?

Real Techniques Buffing Brush Vs Ebay Dupe

From the pictures above, both brushes look pretty good. And they are. The Real Techniques Buffing Brush is my favourite brush from the Sam's Picks Brush Set. The dupe, like the Real Techniques brush, is made of soft fibre. The price is amazing which makes it totally worth the purchase. One thing I noticed though which I didn't like was that the fibres of the dupe brush absorb the foundation easily and as such begin to feel more tense and may apply foundation a bit more unevenly. Which means that with these brushes, you'd just have to wash them more often than you do your RT buffing brush. Other than that, I think the dupes are great because I didn't notice any fall out even after washing it numerous times.

Pros of dupe

Soft fibres

Fibres absorb liquid foundation more easily.

Have you tried a dupe of the Real Techniques brushes? What did you think?

DIY Henna Hair Mask

Hello beauties. I hope you are all well. I am on my way to Barcelona today for a well deserved vacation, so I hope it is sunny where you are. If you follow my posts, you might have already guessed that my hair is one of my treasures. I spend so much time taking care of it and trying to get it to grow {if you have any tips for hair growth, please leave them in the comments}.

You can have a look at my haircare routine, my hair growth journey start length check and my hair growth journey 3 months update just so you are aware of all that's been happening hair wise. I recently got my hands on some colourless henna and decided to share a post on this DIY henna hair mask. I love using colourless henna as opposed to the usual henna as I do not want to colour my hair, I just want to give it all the nutrients henna brings. Unfortunately, I can't seem to always find it in stores.

How to strengthen your hair and add shine

1 Egg
1-2 tbsp Olive oil
Warm water

Warm your olive oil a bit in a small bowl {for this I usually use the microwave}. Pour in your henna, break your egg and put it in the same small bowl. Mix all of these together. It should make a relatively thick paste which doesn't look very pleasant. Add a little warm water at a time so you don't make it too watery as this will cause it to most likely drip down your face when you apply it on your hair {be careful and don't use water that's too hot or you may end up having breakfast/dinner in the shower, featuring scrambled egg}. Once you have reached a smooth consistency, apply this to your dry hair. Leave it in your hair from 30mins to a couple of hours. Wash it off, then shampoo and condition as usual.

What it does

Colourless or neutral henna has astringent and cleansing properties. It strengthens your hair, promotes nutrition of hair follicles and improves its structure which makes it great not only for damaged hair but also for normal hair. Eggs are a source of protein and are a great substitute to the protein shampoos sold in stores. Eggs contain vitamin A, D and E. These vitamins prevent thinning, protect you hair from the sun and improve the texture and health of your hair. Fatty acids in the egg also add shine to your hair. Finally, the olive oil coats your hair making it look and feel healthier, tames frizz and softens your hair. After the use of this hair mask, your hair will be much stronger, the colour of your hair will be brighter and your hair will look & feel so much healthier.

What type of hair it is best used on

Dry, damaged hair. But it can also be used on normal hair for improving its appearance and making it healthier.

Have you used such a hair mask? Will you be trying this out?

Review: MUA Smokin Palette

Hello beauties. I hope you all had a great weekend with lots of rest and probably some at-home pampering. For a long time, I was someone who didn't use eyeshadow on a daily basis and sometimes not even on the weekends. But I have quite a few so I decided to make it part of my everyday look. So when I got this palette in a package from my lovely friend Laura I was excited as the colours looked great. Laura is a total babe, an amazing blogger and a great friend so stop by her blog Tease Flutter Pout. Today, I'd like tell you what I think about the MUA Smokin Palette.

MUA Smokin Palette

MUA Palette, Everyday palette

MUA Smokin Palette Swatches: Colours

The palette contains 10 colours, with the first row being neutrals and the second being more colourful, and includes both matte and shimmery shades. I think the colour range is great for everyday makeup as well as night time. The eyeshadows are quite pigmented and I've used them both dry and wet. Using them wet gives you a more dramatic look so I keep that for evenings. The palette also contains a black kohl pencil which I haven't used very often as I usually use an eyeliner pen.

With the Smokin Palette, I haven't noticed much fallout during application. Actually, when I use them wet, there is hardly any fall out which is great because it means I can apply my base before my eyes {it's a habit for me}. I have been using this palette constantly for my everyday look {well, up until I got a bump on my eyelid and applying eye shadow just makes it more obvious} and it is so great. And for the price, well you can't really go wrong with this one.

My favourite shades for my everyday look are Glory, Boudoir and Broken. I find that they blend very well together and don't look like I overdid it to the office even when I have a bold lip.

Overall Summary
Price -  £6
Likes - Great range of colours, especially for everyday use.
Dislikes - Could be more pigmented.
Verdict - Love! Favourite palette for everyday use.
Available - Superdrug, MUA Website

Vanilla Shimmer

Hi beauties. I hope you are all great. Today I thought I would introduce you to something I have been working on for quite some time. A while ago I started making jewellery and realised I love it so much I decided to make a store titled shopcherryfashion which went with my blog name Cherryfashion.

After the blog name change, I had a lot going on and decided to close the shop until I was sure I am able to take orders. While writing my thesis, I decided I wanted the store to have it's own name and social media. So I decided to do some rebranding. And that's how Vanilla Shimmer was founded.

Vanilla Shimmer is a store for handmade items such as jewellery, hair accessories and dog bows. There will be new items constantly being added to the shop so keep an eye out. Some of the items are only available in a single copy and as such are very unique. The new collection is now available and all items are plated with either gold or sterling silver which makes them of great quality.

Be sure to stop by the shop and follow Vanilla Shimmer on Twitter & Instagram. I hope you like the items available.  If you would like to make a custom order, just get in touch.

Mint Jumper from Fashion Union

Last weekend, the sun came out, and for me that could only mean one thing. Back to taking OOTD pictures. Sunny days for me means I can wear some of my favourite items such as pastels, so I was inspired to style my Vashti Embellished Shoulder Jumper in Mint from Fashion Union with a yellow skirt.

Because it was sunny but not entirely warm, this jumper was a great fit for the day. Not only is the colour of the jumper great and one of my favourites, the embellishment on the shoulders of the jumper is a great accent on details and gives it a more dressy look. I think this is probably one of my favourite jumpers now.

You can style this jumper a bit more casual by going for black jeans but I decided the weather called for something more girly. To complete the look I chose my beige ankle boots to give it more of an everyday look. To accessorize this outfit, I went for my pastel H&M sunglasses and lots of some midi rings.

Let me know how you would style this embellished shoulder jumper and what are your favourite items for Spring?

Review: MAC Pressed Pigment in Flicker

Hello beauties.  Today, I am reviewing the MAC Pressed Pigment in Flicker. Almost everyone loves MAC products. Do you love MAC? I do, even though I have just a few. Although we do not have MAC counters in Latvia, I was lucky enough to be sent this product by my friend Luchessa of Beauty Expression by Luchessa.

MAC Pressed Pigment

MAC Pressed Pigment in Flicker
MAC Pressed Pigment Flicker Swatch
MAC Pressed Pigment in Flicker blended

The product is a powder which is firm to the touch due to it being pressed, and comes in a round plastic container which is easy to use or carry around. It is a vanilla shade which is very shimmery and has glitter in it, so I personally feel like it is more of a night time or going out eyeshadow. I have seen people using something similar but in loose powder form as a highlighter. I haven't tried using it as a full on highlighter as I think the glitter would be a bit over the top.

The product is very pigmented but can easily be blended as shown in the picture above so you can wear it dry if you would just like to add some shine. I have worn it on top of my eyeshadow look by lightly brushing it on. You can also use it wet by applying it on your eye lid right after an eyeshadow base in order to make the colour more vibrant for a dramatic look. I guess it all depends where you are going.

When applying this pressed pigment, there may be some fall out. I really don't mind it with this shade as I usually just dust off a bit and then blend out whatever is left on the top of my cheeks, but if you are using a different shade, you will want to apply the pigment before your base. All in all I think it is a great product.

Overall Summary
Price -  $21 {3g}
Likes - Gorgeous colour which can be used dry or wet.
Dislikes - Fall out.
Verdict - Purchasing Rock Candy.

White Background for Blog Photos

Hello beauties! I hope you are all great. It has been such a long time since I did a post with a tutorial for blogging or some tips and tricks for blogging, so when writing a post about what to use as a white background came to me, I thought it would be really useful.

I know some of you may not have a white background anywhere in your house. You don't own the famous dresser from Ikea or have the alex drawers, but beauty products look great when the photos are on some sort of light background. Well, I'll tell you a secret, I don't have those either. I don't even have a proper white wall or table at home. So I came up with an idea of how to get everything to work for me.

White Background for Blog Photos
When you are looking for a white background, you have a couple of options. If you have another secret option, please let me know in the comments.

The lightbox

The lightbox is an easy way to get bright photos. There are 4 colours of backgrounds you can use {black, blue, red and white} so you have different options but for blogging I prefer white backgrounds.  The lightbox is also foldable which makes it easy to put away till the next time you need it. This item isn't expensive but in this selection, it is probably the most expensive option. You can order the lightbox on ebay for approximately 13 euros. Here are some links of where to get it: max-digitaldslr, mxqtech, eforlink.

How to setup:
This can be done anywhere that is comfortable for you. Basically all you do is get 3 lamps {left, right and on top}, put your product inside and take the pictures from the space left in the front. Because the light is coming from all 3 directions, it covers all the shadows and the photos come out bright. A bit of editing will probably be needed, but it will be easy and fast.

Corrugated cardboard/ simple cardboard

You can also use cardboard which is sold at all craft stores and costs less than 1 euro or get corrugated cardboard. The difference between them is the corrugated cardboard is harder than the simple cardboard. So you will need to get about 3 of them in order to cover all the possible angles you may need. Also, I think the corrugated cardboard is more expensive. On the other hand, 1 simple cardboard is basically enough if you are taking pictures of small items such as beauty products. The best part is you can always throw the cardboard away once it gets stained and get a new one since they are very cheap.

How to setup:
Corrugated cardboard: Align one cardboard with the wall and the other with the floor. This will create a 90 degrees angle which is great for taking pictures of products standing as opposed to using 1 sheet and placing the product on it making it look a bit more 2 dimensional.

Simple Cardboard: Place one end of the cardboard on a vertical surface {for example your closet} so that the bottom half of the cardboard goes flat on the ground. Then stick it to the vertical surface using a lot of paper tape {using paper tape is best when sticking it to a surface from which you would like to remove it later as it doesn't leave glue residue on that surface}. Use something heavy to hold the other edge to the ground and start taking your pictures.

White bedsheets

Another option is to use a white bedsheet. If you have a white bedsheet which still looks pretty good but is torn in such a way that there is still enough space for beauty products, you can recycle that. Or you can buy one if you find a place that sells them really cheap. The white bedsheet needs to be quite opaque in order to cover the colour of the item you will be putting it on. This is my least favourite option as I just don't like how the fabric looks in pictures, but it also works. And if you put the product away from the background, you can make the focus on the item and the background blurry.

How to set up:
Iron the sheets to make them smooth. Then, as with the cardboard, find a way to attach it to a vertical surface while letting the other half drag on the floor or table

So to summarize all my babble, my first option to use would be a cardboard which should be available in any store that sells art/craft supplies. I got my from Janis Roze. I suggest get a couple at once so you can always change them if you notice one is dirty. My next option would be to get the lightbox because no tying or sticking is required so it is very easy to use. One thing I am not sure about is if you can wash the background somehow {just in case you smear some lipstick or get some eyeshadow on it}.

What do you use for your blog photos background?

H&M Conscious and Conscious Exclusive Collections Preview

Hello beauties. A bit over a week ago, I attended the preview event of the H&M Conscious and Conscious Exclusive 2014 Collection at the H&M showroom. Before we move on to the pictures and video, I would just like to say a huge thank you to the H&M Showroom staff here in Riga for inviting me.

H&M Conscious & Conscious Exclusive Collections Preview

The H&M Conscious and Conscious Exclusive Collections include a wide range of Womenswear and some Menswear as well. The collections will be available in stores on the 10th of April. The Conscious Exclusive collection will be available in 150 chosen H&M stores all over the world as well as online while the Conscious collection will be available in all H&M stores and online.

The collections are made up of a lot of Summer pieces as well as some Spring pieces. This year, two new materials have been added to the collection: organic leather and organic silk. The collections include calm colours such as black, white, beige, grey etc, bold colours such as orange and prints. Which in my opinion covers most of the must have items for summer which makes it a great collection for anyone.

Have you ever had this feeling like you are in love when you look at a certain item? I think we all have. But for me it is like I am deeply in love with the orange dip hem dress and the embroidered sandals. They are both so amazing! The sandals are from the Conscious Exclusive collection so they will be a bit pricey but the dress shouldn't be that pricey so I am hoping to get it once it is out. Other items I liked are the earrings as they are so bold and instantly make a statement for a simple outfit, the beige heels which I think will be super comfy & a great colour for summer and the layered necklace.

Have a look at the pictures and let me know what items you are excited for.
