Since beginning my transitioning journey, I've been so interested in natural hair videos and posts. Finding out all the different curly hairstyles I can do, what products others use, how they grow their natural hair and all that jazz. One of the styles I see done quite often are flexi rods. They can be done on wet hair or on dry stretched hair, you can let it air dry or dry it with a hooded dryer, and you can either just roll the hair on the flexi rods or roll and twist. The way you do them all depends on what results you want to achieve and what works best for you. I've wanted to give this a go but just couldn't find time because this hairstyle needs a while to Finally, I got the chance to try them out and thought I'd film my first attempt for you all to see. I decided to try it out on freshly cowashed dry hair in order to reduce the drying time.
Here is how I did them:
I originally wanted to achieve a big curly fro look, so I divided my hair into 5 section and started off by working on the front. The products I used were Fantasia Argan Oil Curl Styling Pudding* and an oil mix. I divide each section into smaller bits, applied the curl pudding and then the oil. Combed my hair to remove all tangles, then rolled and twisted the flexi rod. Once rolled all the way to the top, I bent it to hold it in place. I did the same thing for each section and ended up looking like medusa as it is with this hairstyle. Then I just went about my daily stuff which included giving candy a wash, cleaning the house a little bit and stuff.
The take down process is very easy. Just roll the flexi rods in the opposite direction and unravel the hair. Once I had it unraveled, I divided each curl and left my hair down. But as the days went by, I fluffed it a bit more to make it bigger.
Watch my full video which includes a bit of a talk through on how to put in the rods and take them down. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel. Excuse the lighting, but this was filmed with a couple of hours difference so the sun wasn't as bright.
Overall, I was happy with the results I got for the first time except that I noticed the curl pudding stayed in chunks at the roots sometimes and had to remove that with a bit of water after I was done filming.
What do you think of the results?
