Hello Beauties. During the summer, I started a hair growth journey but was slacking with actually taking my vitamins and had to change my usual hair routine when I went on vacation for about 3 week. Now, I am ready to start my hair growth journey over and thought it would be great if I first showed you my current haircare routine.
My hair is naturally really curly. From what I understood from all my research, it is kind of type 4 hair. I relax my hair once in 2-3 months depending on how much it grows. I would usually relax it when I see about 1 inch of growth or more and it begins looking too voluminous at the roots. When I relax my hair, it never goes bone straight which is something I like; it just becomes wavy and much more manageable.
I am fully aware that relaxing your hair is not very good for it because it weakens it, but managing my natural hair would mean taking a lot of time in the morning to properly comb through it without pulling half of it out. Also, my hair is naturally dry and plus I ombred it which means it needs a lot of moisture.
Shampoos and Conditioners
I usually wash my hair 2 times a week, sometimes 1 time if I can get away with it. On the weekend I would wash my hair using the Mane 'n Tail Deep Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner, you can see a full review of these here. When I am washing my hair mid-week, I am not too picky on what I use but at the moment I have the L'oreal Arginine Resist X3 Reinforcing Shampoo & Total Repair Extreme Reconstructing Conditioner as well as the Superdrug Coconut & Sweet Almond Shampoo & Conditioner.
I would also deep condition using the Superdrug Coconut & Sweet Almond Intensive Conditioner. I usually leave it in for maximum 10 minutes during the week and anything from 30 minutes to a couple of hours on the weekend.
Leave in products and sprays
Conditioning and deep conditioning is great but because my hair is very dry, it needs extra moisture which for me means applying a decent amount of leave in products daily so it looks and feels great. The leave in products I currently use include Mane 'n Tail Olive Oil Complex Leave in Creme Therapy and my all time favourite and holy grail hair product which is the Dark and Lovely Corrective Leave-In. You can find my full review on the Dark and Lovely Leave-In here. Both products are great and I am very happy with them as after applying them, my hair can then be combed without pulling out clumps of hair.
If I am going to leave my natural curls in, I would use my leave in products, some oil and then the L'oreal Studio Silk & Gloss Curl Power Spray. I would then scrunch my hair and leave it to air dry with continuous scrunching every 5 minutes or so.
When I decide to straighten my hair for some special occasions, I would use the Got2b 220C Heat Protection all over my hair, comb it out and then leave it to air dry before finally straightening my hair.
To finish off my hairstyle for the day, I would apply the Got2b Sparkling Shine Styling Spray which adds shine to your hair. I prefer to use this instead of hairsprays.
Hair oils
To lock in all the moisture I add to my hair with leave in conditioners, I usually use a variety of oils. Coconut oil is used once a week to deep condition my hair overnight or during the day. I usually leave this in for a couple of hours which allows the oil to properly condition my hair. Castor oil is used once in 2 weeks in combination with the coconut oil and also left overnight. I read and have been told by lots of people castor oil helps hair grow so I am currently not only applying it to my hair but also my eyebrows and eye lashes.
My daily oils include Doogro Stimulating Growth Oil and Amla Plus Herbal Hair Oil which I apply starting from my ends and them work my way up to my scalp. I think both these oils are amazing and I use them everyday.
So that is basically what I use on my hair at the moment. The shampoo I use mid week changes from time to time and I would sometimes use my Aveda shampoo or any other one I purchase when my current products finish.
As I am starting my hair growth journey soon, I have gotten a few other things for myself and would tell you all about that in my next post.
I would love to know what your holy grail products are as I would love to try some new products out, so leave me a comment.
Have a fab day and let me know your holy grails.
Thanks for the help beautiful! I don't relax my hair but this sounds like great advice for my hair re growth and strengthening xxx
