It has been over 2 years since I started my transition to natural hair. If you're interested in my journey so far, you can check out my posts on why I decided to go natural, the struggles I faced, how it felt to be newly natural and some tips on transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. I love my natural hair and my goal is to grow it as long as I possibly can. I would like you to join me on that journey as I document it all on the blog.
I'm starting off with a length check and a list of products that I am currently using. As time passes, I will change some of the products and I hope to be able to keep you updated every 3 or 6 months, to see how much my hair has grown and what I have been doing to achieve the results.
Current haircare schedule
I moisturize my hair daily using water and leave-in conditioner if my hair isn't in a protective style such as braids. Once or Twice a week I cowash my hair to get rid of the dirt and add moisture to my hair. If you don't know what cowashing is, you can find all the details in my post on cowashing. I also try to deep condition every weekend with a moisturizing hair mask or a protein mask. Once a month, I prepoo and then shampoo my hair. This usually depends on how much product I have been using lately and how dirty my hair feels.
Current products being used
I was hoarding a bit on the product end as I'm always looking for new products to try in order to find my favourites. So I do have quite a few variations of certain products (I think I may have too many oils). Recently, I've been trying to stay away from buying lots of hair products which serve the same purpose in the hopes to use up the ones I have.
Some of the products I am currently using include:
Conditioner - Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner, Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner
Leave-in conditioner - Novex My Curls Intense Leave-in Conditioner
Treatments - DIY Protein mask, Novex Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
Styling products - Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream, Creme of Nature Argan Oil Butterlicious Curls
Oils - Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Jamaican Mango & Lime Black Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Dabur Amla Hair Oil.
Now moving on to the length check. I think it's more difficult to do length checks on curly hair due to shrinkage, but I've done my best to show the current length. I'll be using the same stripped t-shirt so it's easier to track the difference between the pictures.
What are some of your tips for hair growth? I'd love to include them in my journey.
