Barcelona is an amazing place to visit. There is so much to see in Barcelona you'll probably not see it all in one trip. From Sagrada Familia to Park Guell, Casa Batllo, Casa Mila/La Pedrera, Arc de Triomf, Park Ciutadella and so much more. You'll also spend your days wandering around the city and exploring the Born and Gothic District, and your nights trying out the traditional tapas in bars.
But if you have the time, one of the beauties of Barcelona is the possibility to visit other towns for a day trip.
Montserrat
Take a day trip to Montserrat and hike to the highest point at the top of the mountain (Sant Jeroni) or just have a walk around and go into the Monestery and visit the Black Madonna. The views are absolutely stunning, and if you want to see what I mean check out my post on when we hiked at Montserrat.
Sitges
Beach towns are always beautiful in Barcelona and Sitges is one of the closest towns to visit. You can take a train from Barcelona and be in Sitges in about 30 minutes. Have a walk around the cute streets and by the beach, as you make your way to the Church of Sant Bartomeu & Santa Tecla. There are many restaurants and cute stores to visit, and a walk by the beach is amazing both in the Summer and Winter.
Girona
Girona is know for its Medieval Architecture and colourful building by the Onyar River. It is also one of the locations for Game Of Thrones, so lots of GOT fans tend to visit it for this reason as well. You can check out my post on a Day Trip to Girona for details on how to get there and what to see.
Costa Brava
Costa Brava is one of my favourite places to visit and it begins at Blanes and runs all the way along the coast. It's an amazing beach destination during the Summer, but also great to explore and spend the day during the Winter. You can get to Blanes by train from Barcelona in about 1.5hrs. If you've rented a car for your stay in Barcelona you can drive along the coast which has a beautiful scenery and make your way to Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar or even Playa de Aro. Each town is beautiful and you'll have an amazing visit.
Tarragona
Located on Costa Daurada and hosting the Amphitheatre Roma facing the Mediterranean is the beautiful Tarragona. I visited Tarragona for a few hours on our way back from Valencia and it is beautiful. Check out the Tarragona Cathedral and walk through the highest part of Tarragona. The Amphitheatre is an amazing place to watch the subset.
Andorra
For those who have rented a car, or are open to trying out a service such as Blablacar, you can visit a new country which is between Spain and France called Andorra. Andorra is popular in the winter season for Skiing and Snowboarding, and is amazing in the Summer for camping. The nature is beautiful and the air feels clean. It is a great escape from the city life to the outdoors.
Have you visited any of these locations?
